Trained Teachers who have a good knowledge of written Chinese, or who are willing and able to acquire it within 3 or 4 years of their engage- ment, for even the Government cannot get its Masters to study Chinese, the Managers consider that the requirements of the Report are quite unattainable, and will be for years. (Section 49).

In conclusion we would respectfully sug- gest that Managers be consulted during the preparation of any amended Code, as they have had many years' experience of educational matters in Hongkong.
